Newsflash: Cell Phones & Wireless Products Are Recyclable!

CELLULAR PHONE RECYCLING PROGRAMS ARE MAKING WAVES BY LETTING PEOPLE KNOW HOW TO RECYCLE THEIR OLD WIRELESS EQUIPMENT

There are approximately 200 million cell phones in use in the United States today, according to INFORM, an independent, nonprofit environmental research organization. Other recent surveys have revealed some startling statistics. The average American adult owns 2.4 cell phones. More than 26% of those surveyed own three or more cell phones and over 56% of those surveyed still have their old cell phones. What's more, an estimated 130 million cell phones will be retired this year. As new features and technologies find their way into these phones, they become obsolete even quicker, meaning that the number of "retired" cell phones will only grow as the years pass.

Unfortunately, that growing number does not necessarily mean that the American public is any more aware of the problem. A survey conducted by the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC), a nonprofit public service organization dedicated to recycling rechargeable batteries, revealed that more than 70% of respondents were unaware that cell phones are recyclable. However, nearly 90% of those who answered indicated that they would participate in a cell phone disposal and electronics recycling program if they were provided with convenient drop-off points.

Don't Place old cell phone in landfills - recycle them!

Surveys have consistently shown that Americans are ready and willing to help the environment when they are provided the proper channels to do so. Until recently, when it came to recycling cell phones, that channel simply wasn't available to most people. Recycling for Charities has been making that opportunity increasingly available, donating much needed money to a multitude of charities while saving our landfills from the harmful effects of lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium.

Cell phones are recyclable! Recycling for Charities is solid proof that the process is simple.
